Making Killjoys with my friends and wearing our outfits to school was fun. So was 80's movie freeze frame jumping and slo-mo running to The Only Hope for Me is You. I also had a wonderful time in the car with my friends blaring Planetary Go! and singing at the top of our lungs and dancing like idiots, not caring who saw us. None of those however beat the night I finally saw My Chemical Romance live in concert at the Honda Civic Tour.
It was September 24th, 2011 and my cousin Nicole, her friend Allie and myself were walking through the rows and rows of cars and little groups of fans gathered around having a good time hanging about. The atmosphere was intoxicating. Nothing was going to get at me that day. My cousin and I were wearing Killjoy masks I had painted for us a few days before and matching My Chem shirts (that's what cool people do right?). We ran into this wonderful group of fans who were fully decked out in Killjoy regalia. There was a girl in a Fun Ghoul vest that shouted at me in passing, "I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!" and pointed to her own underneath to show me she was wearing the same one. I then turned around and yelled back at her, "I LOVE YOUR VEST!!!!" Seeing all these other people that were just like me was amazing. No one gave us funny looks or made rude comments about us or MCR. It felt like one huge Day-Glo family reunion. We all belonged there. It was a special night already and it hadn't even really started.
When we found our seats I was so excited I couldn't sit down. As soon as the BLInd agent showed up on the big screen I gasped so loud that all heads would've been turned toward me if the whole place hadn't erupted in screams and cheers as the countdown started. 10…9…8…7…6…The anticipation starts to build as we can faintly make out 4 figures on the stage in the darkness. 5…4…3…2…1! The lights come on and everyone starts jumping around as the opening tabs of Na Na Na play. As soon as Gerard started to sing everyone sang with him and danced like no one was watching. There were confetti balloons thrown out onto the crowd during Planetary Go! and Ray popped one over his head causing it to rain confetti all over him. We all sang along at the top of our lungs throughout the whole set. I sang so loud and screamed so much I had to stop halfway through Our Lady of Sorrows or I would have puked. The climax of that set though was when the entire Amphitheatre had their fists pumping in the air for Welcome to the Black Parade. There was such a sense of unity amongst the fans at that point that I got chills. We ARE an army. We will always be there for each other as fans, as a family and the band will always be there for us. Danger Days as an album, a movement, an era and that wonderful night re-instilled that belief in me. Nothing can stop us. Keep running Killjoys. We're in this for the long haul. :)
This here was my entry for the Danger Days Memory contest on My Chem's site. the prompt? your favorite memory associated with Danger Days. I like to think i did a pretty good job with mine. I have difficulty finding the right words sometimes so this took me a few days to get down. i got it submitted with just a few hours to spare. I really hope I could win this one. That guitar is just beautiful and I would absolutely love to learn an instrument. Lets cross our fingers Killjoys :)
